Marriage Licenses in Lawrence County

The license is good for 30 days from the date of issue and can be used in any Missouri county. The officiant must return the signed license to the Lawrence County Recorder within 15 days of the wedding per RSMo 451.130. If either person was married before, bring the month and year that marriage ended. As of August 28, 2025, both people must be at least 18 years old to marry in Missouri. There are no exceptions.

Note: Lawrence County is close to the Jasper County line, so some couples near Joplin may find it easier to get a license in Mt. Vernon rather than traveling to Carthage.
